Spring seminar: Smokers - Attitudes, Behaviour and Cessation

    Director of the Tobacco Control Program, Massachusetts Department of Public Health and member of the World Health Organisation's expert panel on smoking and health.

Chair Afternoon Session:

  • Michael Lyons
    Chief Executive Officer, Eastern Regional Health Authority.

The keynote presentation outlined an international perspective on smokers' attitudes and behaviour including the impact of tobacco control initiatives. Presentations featured current research on smokers in Ireland, their attitudes to prevention initiatives and cessation activities, how smokers are reflected in economic models and responses to smokers' needs.

Speakers' panel included Dr David Madden(University College Dublin), Claire Conroy (IMS Health), Norma Cronin (Irish Cancer Society), Damian Loscher (MRBI), Dr Catherine Hayes (Eastern Regional Health Authority) and Miriam Gunning (Health Promoting Hospitals Network).
