Minister O'Malley closes conference on future directions on tobacco control in the EU|

Mr Tim O´Malley TD, Minister of State at the Department of Health and Children, today (18th June 2004) spoke at the closing plenary of the EU Conference on Future Directions in Tobacco Control which took place in the Radisson SAS in Limerick.

Tobacco killing 4.9 million people prematurely each year according to World Health Organization|

The WHO’s Assistant Director-General, Noncommunicable Diseases and Mental Health, Dr Catherine Le Galès-Camus said today (Thursday, 17 June) that the premature death toll due to tobacco would double to 9.8 million annually over the next 20 years, if current trends continue.
